A Study on the Satisfaction of some Students Majoring in the Dental Hygiene Classified Clinical Practice Institutions

Abstract
This research aims at examining the degree of satisfaction of each clinical training hospital depending on the subjects¡¯ general characteristics and the conditions of a field practice institution, and the changes in the images of dental hygienists after practice. A total of 253 questionnaires were distributed to students majoring in dental hygiene in various clinical institutions in Chungcheong or Jeolla, South Korea from November 16 to December 4, 2015. The data was analyzed through frequency analyses, chi-square test using the SPSS WIN 21.0 program, and the statistical significance level was considered as ¥á=0.05. The main reasons for selecting a suitable practice institution were good educational environment and satisfactory guidance. Concerning the degree of satisfaction regarding the conditions of the practice institution, ¡°general hospitals¡± were the for every condition. Regarding clinically-trained student satisfaction, according to their graduating high school, 51.9% were ¡°satisfied¡± at an academic high school, whereas 65.7% responded with ¡°normal¡± after graduating from a vocational high school (p < 0.05). The result of the changes in the images of dental hygienists after clinical practice depending on a high school one graduated and whether one had experiences in the society or not showed meaningful differences(p<0.05). Therefore, in order to increase the degree of satisfaction with clinical practice, each field practice institution needs to analyze and improve the problems with the conditions with differences so that the images of dental hygienists can become more positive and they can develop professionalism.
